Biography
Evgeny Pidko, born in 1982, in Moscow, Russia, studied chemistry at the Higher Chemical College of the Russian Academy of Sciences (HCC RAS), Moscow, and graduated cum laude in 2004. Already during his MSc studies  at HCC RAS he was appointed a junior research fellow (2002-2005) in the group of prof. dr. Kazansky at the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry (Moscow, Russia). His research at that stage involved experimental studies focused on synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and investigation of adsorption properties and reactivity of oxide- and zeolite-based catalysts.
In January 2005 Evgeny Pidko joined the group of prof. dr. R.A. van Santen at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. degree in March 2008. His Ph.D. work was mainly focused on theoretical studies of chemical reactivity of zeolites. In april 2008, Evgeny Pidko accepted a post-doctoral researcher position with prof. dr. E.J.M. Hensen and prof. dr. R.A. van Santen at TU/e. Currently, his work mainly focuses on catalytic transformations of carbohydrate-based biomass. Besides this he is involved in a number of scientific collaborations in the fields of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis as well as coordination and supramolecular chemistry. His research interests include reaction mechanisms and structure-reactivity relationships in heterogeneous catalysis, as well as self-organization and molecular recognition phenomena in chemo-catalytic systems.
