Institute for Complex Molecular Systems

New building for ICMS

ICMS is located in the TU/e Main Building since summer 2008. However, the strong growth of the organization and the need for state-of-the-art experimental facilities can only be realized in dedicated housing. The CERES building, former TU/e boiler house, is being renovated to offer a home for ICMS. This project is part of the Campus 2020 master plan.

Having CERES as home for ICMS will facilitate several of the key objectives of ICMS: it will offer a place in which scientists from various fields but with similar interests can meet and interact, as well as laboratories and offices, and a home for the Graduate Program Complex Molecular Systems. The TU/e Advanced Study Center (ASC) will be established to encourage scientific discussion in complexity related workshops.

After specialized companies have dismantled and removed the existing boilers and old installations as well as the asbestos being present in the original building, construction work started in the summer of 2011. The move of ICMS to the new building is planned for summer 2012.
