Managing Technology in Society
While innovation is crucial for economic growth, sustainable development and welfare, many inspiring technological ideas never make it into society. Innovation Sciences focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of why this is the case, and how to improve the situation. Students learn to understand and manage the mechanisms and processes involved in developing and introducing new technological options. They gain a better understanding of the socio-economic implications of technical change. They will work on the design and evaluation of public policies, private business strategies and actions of non-governmental organisations. They learn to put technical change in a European and global context. Important questions include how local or national societies can create an innovative climate in a globalizing world and which factors and actors determine whether a new technology will succeed as well as how government and business can introduce innovations which lead to sustainable development.
