Course structure

The Chemical Engineering and Chemistry bachelor’s program comprises your major, basic subjects, free electives and USE (User, Society and Entrepreneurial) courses. A number of compulsory subjects provides you with a solid foundation that enables your engineering career to take different directions. You also have non-technology subjects because engineers do more than simply engineering. In addition to your major, a good part of your study incorporates free electives that can accentuate your study.

You can choose electives that will accentuate your study program. You can opt for subjects from another field that will help broaden your knowledge, or you can choose elective packages like Molecular Systems and Materials Chemistry, or Chemical and Process Technology that take you deeper in your own field. You can also choose elective courses like nanotechnology or biochemistry. By shaping your study yourself, you select the societal challenges you want to help solve.

Students who can handle an additional challenge besides their regular education, may participate in the TU/e Honors Academy.

Going abroad

Following approval from the Examinations Committee, it may be possible for you to follow part of your electives at a different university in the Netherlands or abroad. Especially the third year of the bachelor’s program offers this opportunity.
