FAQ

  • Program. What do the technical courses entail?

As an industrial engineer, you make choices in business operations and try to predict all kinds of phenomena using mathematics and programming. Not just the weather, traffic congestion or how heavy the foundation of a building should be; you can also model business processes. This is primarily what takes place in Industrial Engineering. By changing small things in a structured and controlled way, it becomes clear what effects the changes have on the outcome. In this way, you can optimize processes but also design new processes for which you can predict the outcome in advance. Rather than trial...

  • Program. What is the relationship between theory and practice?

During each quartile (10-week period), you follow three courses. A large majority of the courses offer group assignments. These are projects in which you apply your theory to a (fictitious) assignment. The share of these assignments in the final grade varies per course.

  • Program. What makes this degree an engineering program?

During your studies, you will learn how to solve realistic problems in a mathematical, analytical manner through simulation and analysis. The scientific knowledge that you gain will contribute to this.

  • Program. Which mathematical (high school) techniques are used in Industrial Engineering?

Much of the Mathematics B that you learned in high school will be revisited at university in certain contexts. You can expect algebraic skills, functions, graphs, differentiation and integration, among others. In addition, statistics and the associated probability calculations play a large role within the program. You will recognize this if you took Mathematics D in high school, although Mathematics D is not a requirement of the degree.

  • TU/e. Are there many activities and facilities at the university?

Yes! Besides the study association (with a bar on campus), there are more than 60 student associations in Eindhoven, all of which provide many activities on and around the campus.

The university also has a cinema, supermarket, restaurants and sports center, among other things. With a sports card from the sports center, you can do a variety of sports. Additionally, you can do just about any sport you can think of at the student sports clubs. Examples include swimming, bouldering, squash, pole fitness, rugby, hockey, budo, surfing and golf. The sports center has 38 different student sports...

  • TU/e. How long does it take to get from the campus to the center of Eindhoven? What means of transport do you recommend?

From campus, you can get to the center in 10-15 minutes on foot or five minutes by bike. With a bicycle, you can access all major locations in the city quickly and easily. You can reach the train station in about 10 minutes on foot.

  • TU/e. In the Netherlands, what is the difference between a three-year and a four-year bachelor’s degree?

In the Netherlands, the main difference is that the three-year program is offered at universities and, upon completion, graduates receive the title of BSc ir. The four-year program is offered at universities of applied science (HBO) and, upon graduation, students are entitled to use the title of B Eng ing.
