“In the fifth grade of high school, I already knew that I wanted to study at TU/e. But what? I like physics, but enjoy biology and chemistry as well. During an information day I discovered Biomedical Engineering, which covers all three of my favorite subjects. That day I attended a lecture for future students about fluorescent proteins. With a protein that emits light, you can trace diseases and help many people. I like this kind of experiments very much. We learned, for example, how to measure the elasticity of a blood vessel: first practicing on a silicone tube, then we took measurements of a pig’s carotid artery. I’ve only been studying for about a year, but I’m glad that we can freely choose a few subjects every year. There are so many interesting things to do!”
