Security experts are an interesting breed. Software engineers are usually trying to build things and reach goals. Security people look at what other people built and see what else they can make it do. Security is about stepping off the beaten paths again and again. The most important skill is thinking differently.

Eindhoven is an interesting place. Everywhere you go, you meet extremely smart people. The entire city breathes technology, which makes it beautiful even if it’s rather ugly. The university is great, too – well organized, with lots of projects and collaborations to feel at home in. I don’t see myself doing a PhD and sticking to one field the rest of my life. I’m also interested in policy and making an impact in other ways. I’ll just have to see which opportunities will open up for me!
