“Sustainability is the number one issue we should be tackling right now. I’m graduating with Stedin, a big Dutch electricity grid operator. The changing electricity regime – with lots of renewable resources and irregular energy generation from solar panels and wind turbines – is causing overload on the grid. I am researching ways to manage this congestion through market approaches and flexible electricity trading, instead of just massively increasing capacity. The grid is a hidden and not-so-glamorous component of sustainability, but it still needs our innovations. Without the grid, even the best solar panels and wind turbines won’t supply energy to customers.

The SET program is great! Professors and fellow students are accessible and in close contact, and the university really supports you in achieving your ambitions. In the future, I hope to continue using technology to make a change in society.”
