Housing for PhD-students and PDEng-students
TU/e has an understanding with Vestide regarding housing for international PhD-students and PDEng students. All housing offered by Vestide is fully furnished. The minimal furnishing consists of the following things:
• a (single) bed
• table & chair
• basic kitchen utensils, such as pots, pans, cups, plates and cutlery
• bed linen
• use of a washing machine
Some accommodations may contain more furnishing.
Besides furnishing, the rent also includes the following costs:
• Council taxes and other levies
• Administration costs
• Safety appliances
• Inspection service
• Partial insurance
With Vestide the following types of accommodation are available:
• 1-person accommodation (rent is € 450 - € 850 per month)
• housing for couples (rent starting at € 700 - € 1000 per month)
We cannot guarantee housing with Vestide will be available. If Vestide does not have availability, or you require family accommodation, you will be provided with information on how to arrange housing via the private market. When housing needs to be arranged via the private market, rental prices are usually higher:
• 1-person accommodation (rent is € 450 - € 1000 per month)
• housing for couples (rent starting at € 700 - € 1500 per month)
• housing for families (rent starting at € 1200 per month).
If you meet the criteria, you may be able to receive rent benefit.
Commercial housing agencies often require a fee for their services. The fee differs per agency, but is usually a few hundred euro. Rental agreement terms can differ per agency/accommodation. In most cases commercial agencies require a minimum period of stay of 6 to 12 months. After this period you are free to cancel the rental agreement with a notice period of one month.
How to apply for housing
The link to the housing application form will be sent to you by your department. To guarantee that your housing is available around the day of your arrival, the housing application needs to be obtained by the international office at least two months prior to your arrival. The form can also be filled out for you by the secretary of the department. The TU/e cannot guarantee that you will be granted the accommodation of your preference.
If you prefer to arrange your housing yourself, information and tips are available here.
What happens after we have received your application?
When we receive your application for housing, we will send you an e-mail. In most cases accommodation is arranged with Vestide.
Please read the housing conditions for the full procedure.
If no accommodation is available with Vestide, you will be provided with information on how to arrange housing via the private market.
