All kinds of events are organized by students in Eindhoven each year. Some have become more or less a tradition in the calendar and there are many general events that take place annually and are popular among students. A review of the annual events is shown below.
Since 1976, Dispute Audumla organizes the largest student hockey tournament of Eindhoven. Every year on Ascension Day, more than 1000 students from all over the Netherlands come over to experience this. In the afternoon everybody plays hockey and in the evening high-quality DJ artists play music until late.
A weekend of partying, camping out on campus and, of course, volleyball in the De Hondsheuvels sports park. The grass volleyball tournament of the student volleyball association Hajraa is internationally renowned and every summer attracts thousands of volleyball fanatics from all over Europe to Eindhoven. But make sure you register in good time.
Europe, hooray! That is the motto of the European Week held once every two years on the TU/e campus. Hundreds of students from different countries of the continent come to Eindhoven to discuss European issues. The highlight of a week full of cultural cross-fertilization is the Auditorium party.
Dance party in June, organized by the SSRE student association at the City Hall square. The party is targeted at a broad audience, so any Eindhoven resident who likes dance is welcome. The stage plays host to internationally known DJ’s. Previous editions attracted a few thousand partygoers.
Every last Friday of the exam period, you can get rid of all study stress during the After Exam Party at the E.S.C downtown Eindhoven. The Eindhovens Studenten Corps organizes this party that is admitted for all students. Each of the four events has a special theme. During this big student party, students from other cities join us.
Love is in the air... Hundreds of students in Spanish costumes sing passionate serenades in Spanish during the two-to-three year Tuna Festival in the center of Eindhoven. The student associations Tuna Ciudad de Luz (male) and La Tuniña (female) organize this musical festival.
Technology is an excellent partner for art. This can be seen, heard and experienced during the annual STRP festival in the old factory buildings on Strijp-S, with concerts, electronic and interactive (video) art, performances, lectures, films, animation, robotics and so on and so on.
What is a city of light without a light festival? In Glow it’s all about the phenomenon of artificial light. For ten days at various places around Eindhoven you can see special installations, performances and events in which light plays the lead role. The enormous light projections on buildings are especially spectacular. It’s free and, as you might expect, an evening event.
Eindhoven shows trendy side during Dutch Design Week. At various spots throughout the city hundreds of designers from the region display their latest creations. Design aficionados from around the Netherlands visit the 'Design City' during the week with the Graduation Galleries the highlight.
Kings Day in Eindhoven is above all a musical celebration. The whole city center is brimful with visitors. with estimates of between 100,000 and 200,000 in recent years. in tens of spots in and around the city center there are dance parties, DJ’s and bands playing, day and night. Once called the 'biggest dance party in the Netherlands’, last year the authorities toned down the 'dance' component.
