Degree structure

The Master's degree program Data Science in Engineering takes 2 years, with 4 quartiles per year. The program consists of the following components:

  • Electives
  • Internship

Core courses Data Science in Engineering

The core courses are:

  • Process Mining
  • Data Mining
  • Algorithms
  • Visualization
  • Real-life data challenges
  • Statistics for Big Data
  • Statistical Learning Theory
  • Probability and Stochastic Processes.


The electives prepare you for your specialization. There is a wide variety of courses to choose from in computer science, mathematics, and courses in human-technology interaction, business models and operations management expertise and skills.


You will get the opportunity to do an internship of three months with a company or a research institute, in The Netherlands or abroad.

Honors program

We offer an Honors program, which is intended for our best-performing students. This challenging program offers you the opportunity to participate in and contribute towards research carried out by the department. The basis of the program consists of 2 research projects of 6 ECTS, which you will take in addition to your standard program.

Final project

The final project of your program spans the last six months of the program. You will specialize in a single subject and demonstrate that you are able to carry out a research project independently, possibly in collaboration with a partner in industry.
