The ideal combination of people and technology

I’m responsible for carrying out analyses of the telecom market. KPN is a major player, which is why it needs to keep up-to-date with developments in the market. Every two months I prepare a report of all the latest developments.

As well as that I analyze what’s happening in Social Media: whether KPN is being talked about positively or negatively. I’m also a member of a number of project groups – for example I’m involved in assessing whether the information we have is representative, and how we can analyze that information. I spend half my working time on analysis, and the other half doing research on the fixed-line consumer market (fixed-line telephony, internet, TV and optical fiber). Our research shows us what type of people are likely to go to our shop, which websites they visit and why they choose specific products. That helps us to optimize our shop and website for visitors.

As far as I’m concerned the Master’s program in Human-Technology Interaction was the ideal combination of people and technology. I found the research in this area particularly interesting. And I still find the challenges of translating human understanding into practical applications an important part of my everyday work. The psychological courses and projects have given me a good grounding that enables me to carry out research into the human aspects of marketing and to translate the resulting knowledge into concrete recommendations.
