I was especially interested in usability and user experience of software systems

While studying for my bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences in Utrecht I was especially interested in usability and user experience of software systems. Psychology is an important aspect for usability, and I missed that knowledge. Therefore I wanted to do a master’s to learn more about psychology, to gain more research experience, and to broaden my knowledge of computer science. Only the TU/e offers a master’s program that perfectly fits this combination.

I am really happy I chose Human-Technology Interaction in Eindhoven. The master's group is quite small and diverse and the teachers are approachable. The students often have international experience, and they come from different fields of study. It is really interesting to hear their stories and views on things.
The courses about doing research and psychology are really informative and help me practice important skills. One cool project I did was for a company where we had to research what the requirements should be for a large wall-mounted communication device for psychiatric patients. For another project we conducted an experiment to find out whether we could make people more scared while watching a horror movie when they received haptic cardiac feedback or not. There are a lot of elective courses you can choose from; enabling to really focus on a field that you think is interesting.

Apart from my study, I enjoy hanging out with friends. It is fun to cook and have dinner with them and trying out different cuisines.

Finally, one more tip for your study choice: go to several information events and ask people what they think about their master’s program. If you think you are interested in the program, then definitely try to be a student for a day! After I participated in an orientation day for the program of Human-Technology Interaction I was certain I wanted to study this master’s and I never regretted my choice!
