Internationalization seal of approval

On 15 December 2010 the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) awarded the Master programs Innovation Sciences (IS) and Human Technology Interaction (HTI) of Eindhoven University of Technology the special ‘internationalization’ quality mark, assessing the internationalization as ‘good’. This quality mark applies to programs that aim to be distinctive in terms of their international orientation. This puts HTI and IS among the top Dutch international higher education programs.

HTI and IS are the First TU Eindhoven Master programs that may formally be termed an ‘international program'. The aim of the NVAO pilot was to examine how institutions could use accreditation to distinguish themselves in respect of internationalization. Twenty programs have been assessed by an international panel according to six standards: vision of internationalization, educational results, teaching and learning, the quality of the staff, services provided and conditions for continuity. The European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA) has embraced the initiative of its Flemish-Dutch sister organization and announced its wish to examine at a European level whether such accreditation can be introduced.

The committee stated in its assessment that ‘the strength of the Master program lay in the compulsory international semester, the international composition of the staff and the relatively high number of foreign students’.
