The research in the COBRA research institute is divided in three cross- and multidisciplinary areas. The research project of the Master will be carried out in one of these areas. The Materials specialization is most suited for students taking the Applied Physics Master (track Nanoscience & Technology); the Devices and Systems specializations are most suited for students taking the Electrical Engineering Master (track Broadband Telecommunication Technologies).
- Materials: focusing on fundamental physical properties of materials and device concepts.
- Devices: developing new semiconductor optoelectronic devices (Indium-Phosphide semiconductor-based Photonic Integration Technology).
- Systems: broadband optical communication systems, including long-reach ultra-high capacity systems, fiber-wireless systems, fiber to the home and fiber in the home converged networks, data centers, and optical interconnecting nodes.
