To make students and staff members at TU/e aware of energy saving and to promote energy-conscious behavior, energy campaigns are organized every year.
A selection of the series of energy-saving actions:
In 2014 the TU/e has done a Christmas action, together with students of Team Energy. This year large floor stickers were stucked and posters were hanged in all buildings of the TU/e. Also, students of Team Energy started talks with the occupants, a few days for the Christmas holidays, and left door hangers. The message was to switch off all equipment and lighting before starting the Christmas holidays. The action has yielded about € 16.500,--.
Through the Christmas message 2013 (watch video) we jointly managed to save more energy again. In comparison with the average consumption during the two normal weekends of 7-8 and 14-15 December, we saved 9.3% on electricity and 15.2% on natural gas. These savings come to a total amount of €16,354.
The extra amount saved in 2013 is lower than that in 2012 because the Christmas holiday lasted 3 days shorter. And as we succeed in saving more in the weekends throughout the year, it will be more difficult to save extra energy.
The Christmas action TU/e Unplugged 2012 saved TU/e an amount of €93,000. Part of this amount will be used to fit all the lecture rooms on the ground floor of the Auditorium with LED lighting.
In 2011 TU/e replaced more than 1000 incandescent bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lamps. Estimated annual savings: 200,000 kWh (€ 21,000).
