Donations pour in for TU/e fundraiser for Ukraine

The fundraising campaign for Giro555 is not over yet! You can still make a donation if you haven't already done so.

Within a day and a half, TU/e's fundraising campaign has already raised more than 40,000 euros for the people of Ukraine and the many refugees in neighboring countries. This is more than double the contribution that the Executive Board made first thing Monday morning on our special Giro555 fundraiser page. We thank everyone for their generous gifts and hope the donations continue! The Ukrainian people desperately need our help right now.

Update March 15: The TU/e action page has now been closed. However, you can still make a deposit via the general Giro555 page. The final score of the TU/e action is 46,170 euros. A total of 860 people made a donation. A big thank you to everyone!

The war in Ukraine is causing unprecedented human suffering. Refugee civilians, young and old, are leaving hearth and home. Many of them have nothing left. The material damage is also great. Because a state of emergency has been declared and men between the ages of 18 and 60 must remain in Ukraine to defend their country, many displaced women and children are on their own. These developments threaten to turn into a humanitarian disaster for 44 million Ukrainians.

TU/e is doing its utmost to support those affected on our campus, but the university also wants to do something for the millions of victims in Ukraine itself and for those who are fleeing. The Executive Board therefore decided to transfer an amount of 20,000 euros (1 euro for every student and employee) to Giro555.

At the same time, the board has called on everyone inside and outside the university to help at least double that amount. And as we have seen, that appeal has been very succesfull. But the fundraising campaign is not over yet! You can still make a donation, if you haven't already done so. Go to our special Giro555 fundraiser page and choose "Doneren aan het gehele team" to contribute to the TU/e total.

The total amount of donations for the national Giro555 campaign 'Together for Ukraine' now stands at more than 106 million euros. That is the third highest amount ever raised for a Giro555 charity call. It is expected that this amount will grow even further in the coming days and weeks.
