Georgios Papafotiou appointed Professor at the department of Electrical Engineering

From May 1st, 2021 dr.ir. Georgios Papafotiou will join the Electromechanics and Power Electronics (EPE) group within the department of Electrical Engineering of Eindhoven University of Technology as Full Professor. He will be working on the use of Computational Intelligence for enhancing the availability of Power Electronics Systems.

Papafotiou received the Diploma and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1997 and 2002, respectively.

He joined the ABB Corporate Research Center, Dättwil, Switzerland, in 2006, where he worked on the development of modern control and estimation methods for power electronics applications. Since 2017, he has been Quality and Customer Experience Manager, System Drives at ABB. Former positions at ABB include Global R&D Manager, MV Drives Control HW & SW, as well as leading the Power Electronics Systems Team, ABB Corporate Research Center, Dättwil. From 2003 to 2006, he was with the Automatic Control Laboratory, ETH Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland, where he worked on MPC for hybrid systems, with a special focus on dc/dc converters and induction motor drives.
