Groothuis starts in his new role on June 1st

Patrick Groothuis will become the new university secretary.

The Executive Board has appointed Patrick Groothuis as university secretary and director of General Affairs of Eindhoven University of Technology. He will start in his new position on June 1st. Groothuis has been working at the TU/e since 2012 and for the last seven years as director of Education & Student Affairs (ESA). The new secretary succeeds Susanne van Weelden, who is stepping down after four years.

Groothuis began his TU/e career in 2012 as director of operations for the department of Mathematics & Computer Science. After almost four years, he became director of Education & Student Affairs (ESA). Groothuis studied business administration at Erasmus University and previously worked at the municipality of Rotterdam and the Ministry of Defense.

Support the Executive Board

As the new secretary, Groothuis will support the Executive Board and will lead the support service General Affairs. He is proud and honored with this appointment. "The versatility of my new role appeals to me enormously. With the knowledge and experience of working in a department and support service, this feels like a natural next step."

Van Weelden had served as secretary since February 1st, 2019. She succeeded Nicole Ummelen four years ago, who was appointed vice president on the Executive Board at the time. Van Weelden looks back on her time as secretary with a sense of satisfaction.
