New PhD student Liang-Shin Wang

Liang-Shin Wang joined the Membrane Materials and Processes Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology and Wetsus (https://www.wetsus.nl/) in April, 2022. She received her BSc in Chemical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, in 2019. She worked on gene editing tool, CRISPR-Cas9, as her bachelor project. She modulated the genetic performance by addition of synthetic switches, and evaluated the efficiency in various cells. She continued with a MSc degree in Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. During her master’s project, she focused on biopolymer downstream processing and worked on polymer characterization. For her PhD studies, she will be working on biobased membranes, films, and/or coatings development, specifically focus on polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). She will investigate methods for modulation of polymer quality and properties during the recovery step and control them towards processing windows suitable for aforementioned materials. The ultimate goal of her research is to integrate this biopolymer recovery process with the direct conversion process into functional materials.
