Playful brain training for children with cognitive problems

November 28, 2022

Aristotle Technologies announced they signed an agreement with Kempenhaeghe to help children with neurological disorders.

Children with neurological disorders often have additional problems such as learning and developmental disabilities.

In collaboration with Eindhoven-based start-up Artistotle Technologies, Kempenhaeghe's Center for Neurological Learning and Development Disorders will work on the development of a computer-based training tool that can be tailored to a child. With this, children with a neurological disorder can playfully train brain functions that hinder them in everyday functioning and learning at school, such as memory, attention and planning skills.
This enhances their quality of life.

start Early with brain training

In november 2022, Kempenhaeghe and Aristotle Technologies signed a cooperation agreement to develop this training tool for children with neurological learning and developmental disorders, such as congenital and non-congenital brain injury as well as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, neurofibromatosis (NF-1) and epilepsy.

Dr. Jos Hendriksen, Kempenhaeghe clinical neuropsychologist: "There is a big challenge because these children's learning is threatened by brain-related problems. The earlier can be started with training tailored to the brain, the greater and broader the effect on learning performance and behavior also in later life. Also remember that learning and behavioral functioning and building self-confidence go hand in hand and mutually influence each other."

Unique expertise

Kempenhaeghe's Center for Neurological Learning and Development Disorders has unique expertise in the Netherlands in the field of learning and behavior in children with neurological disorders.

Through the cooperation with Aristotle Technologies, this expertise can be used to develop treatment options.
Training the brain as an information processing system is an option in which there is broad interest and in which input from technology is indispensable.

Testing ground

Within Kempenhaeghe a 'testing ground' will be set up to see if the developed training matches the experiential world of school children.

During the training children will receive feedback on their performance, allowing them to adjust their behavior immediately. New training tools will be developed with new individual exercises and tasks to further train the brain.

The training tool will also be used in the outpatient clinic of the Center for Neurological Learning and Developmental Disorders.

Together for a vital society

"For us, the collaboration with Kempenhaeghe is a great example of how parties in the Brainport region can come together to innovate for a more vital society. In this, Kempenhaeghe and Aristotle Technologies will keep constantly challenging each other to excel in what inspires us both so strongly: training children with cognitive challenges so they can get the most out of their lives.

I look forward to the results we will achieve as a team together with Kempenhaeghe," said Maurits Overmans, co-Founder & CEO Aristotle Technologies.

Collaboration PSV

Aristotle Technologies and Kempenhaeghe got to know each other through a collaboration with the PSV Academy Eindhoven.

In this unique collaboration, on the one hand are children with a healthy brain and a talent for movement and soccer, and on the other hand children with a neurological disorder for whom learning and movement are threatened. The resulting joint expertise can lead to new insights and methodologies both in the field of diagnostics and care and in the guidance and training within the PSV Academy.
