The American-based Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company provides tires and tire-related mobility services. The global operations are very complex and large scale, causing many managerial challenges. Big data and advanced AI algorithms enable new ways of optimizing operations. The research of PhD student Robbert Reijnen aims to study hybridizations between metaheuristics and deep reinforcement learning, trying to find complementarities that could allow achieving performance, generalizability, and understandability, and is scoped to resource management areas, from manufacturing and supply chain to vehicle fleet management.

The research is a collaboration between TU/e and Goodyear Innovation Center* Luxembourg (GIC*L), which is part of the American-based Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The research is funded by the Luxemburg National Research Fund (FNR).
