NXP and TU/e offer scholarships for master students Electrical Engineering

The NXP Foundation Fellowship Program represents a multi-year commitment by the NXP Foundation of no less than $ 250.000 to fund the advanced study of leading edge technologies by highly qualified students at TU/e.

The NXP Foundation has decided to provide grants to TU/e because of the strong competences of the university in the field millimeter-wave technology. Another factor is that NXP is headquartered in Eindhoven and traditionally has close ties with TU/e.

The program

The scholarship will be funded by the NXP Foundation and will amount to € 5000 per student per year. This academic year seven students were selected, whereas the maximum is ten newly selected students per year.

The NXP Foundation and the TU/e will award the scholarships on the basis of study performance, activities done next to the regular study program and motivation. Students specializing in leading edge technology fields such as automotive, micro-electronics and radio communications will be eligible. The students receiving the scholarship will be doing their graduation assignment or work placement in close collaboration with NXP but have no contractual obligations to NXP at the end of their scholarship period.

The NXP scholarship is complemented by the TU/e Master Honors Academy. The scholarship students will receive an intense professional development training and will jointly work on the NXP teamwork project, coached by senior NXP and university experts.

Millimeter-wave technology

Education on millimeter-wave technology is the foundation for state-of-the-art research on car radar and 5G/6G wireless communications. TU/e leads several research projects in this area in collaboration with NXP and other industrial partners.

Domine Leenaerts, NXP Fellow and professor at TU/e: “Almost all quality improvement in wireless communication comes via simplification of the RF and mm-wave design and that is a challenge NXP is facing daily! This will certainly be true for the new 6G wireless communication standard with frequencies beyond 100GHz. It is important for our future that students learn to cope with these challenges. That is why I am really pleased with the scholarship program, which will undoubtedly get NXP into contact with new talent.”

Kostas Doris, NXP Fellow and professor at the TU/e: “mm-wave radar technology transforms today’s cars into robot-cars that can sense and react to the environment better than humans. With this program we would like to give our students the chance to learn early about the challenges in the exciting field and to enable them contribute through their talent to breakthrough innovations."

Technological top region

As important partners in the Netherlands’ technological top region, Brainport Eindhoven, the TU/e and NXP are working together to encourage and support the study of leading edge technologies. This region offers over 50,000 jobs in the high tech, automotive and manufacturing industry and high-tech services. With 36%, the region has the largest share of the total private R&D spending in the Netherlands.
