Background Information

SNV is the Dutch Development Organisation who, over 52 years, has taken as a mission to make a lasting difference in the lives of millions of people living in poverty.  Since 1995, SNV has been working in Vietnam focusing on developing projects in the Energy, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), Sustainable and Inclusive Agriculture, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene.

Steven von Eije worked between 2013 and 2016 as an Advisor in Renewable Energy and became the Sector Leader in Renewable Energy and Chief Technical Advisor in 2016 for the country while performing as the Country Manager for the “Market Acceleration of Advanced Clean Cookstoves” in Vietnam.

Steven will present an overview of the two main projects he directed while in SNV Vietnam: The Market Acceleration of Advanced Clean Cookstoves and the Biogas Program.

  • The former aims to increase access to the Advanced Clean Cook Stoves (ACCS) in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam by encouraging local producers to develop the ACCS and reward them with a result based finance incentive once the ACCS are sold to end users.

  • On the other hand, the Biogas Program was created in order to develop a market based biogas sector in Vietnam; where access to clean and renewable energy has been provided to 750,000 rural individuals and reduces 500,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.
