Intro
Have you ever sat at a presentation and thought “don’t understand a @#$*ing word”? If so, you are not alone. So here’s a chance to avoid doing to others what you have long-sufferingly had done unto you. One can dwell lovingly on the vain caprices and hubris of many presentations: Does “high-level” =  “I have not really bothered really trying to understand this”? What about the shear nerdiness of the DET (dense equation and text) slide? What about the long pompous title (much favoured by MSc mechanical engineering students at TU Eindhoven)?  Let’s discuss the following: You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. “Impact” ought to mean not clubbing your audience over the head with emanations of ennui.  A different subject and different audience means more than tiredly shuffling your old slide deck. Starting with a bit of philosophy (structural linguistics – but don’t panic) we will proceed to considerations of audience focus, visuals, audio and last but not least, in fact the most important: CONTENT. That is your core: Put the six-pack back into your slide pack.
