Traffic on highways - What can we learn from ants?

Traffic jams on highways are not only annoying, but also an
interesting collective phenomenon (at least for physicists!)
that can be studied systematically with methods and concepts
adapted from physics. The talk will give an overview of the
insights obtained over the last 50 years focussing on the
physics-inspired contributions. Furthermore it will be discussed
how ants manage to avoid jam formation on their trails and
what can be learned from them.
