Developing a sustainable and autonomous rover to facilitate research in Antarctica

Team POLAR in 2022

The problems with research on Antarctica is that the infrastructure is not sustainable, unsafe, limited in range, and extremely expensive. These factors all contribute that the full potential of research on Antarctica is not been reached. This is the underlying problem, that we do not know enough about Antarctica and that the current infrastructure can not provide significant new opportunities.

By making a sustainable and autonomous rover, we ensure that research is not dependent on fossil fuel or human involvement, safer, and more affordable; leading towards more opportunities for research on Antarctica.

Our solution is unique because such a vehicle has never been build for Antarctic usage, and competitors are not yet developing it. The only comparison would be the Mars Rover.
