Rubicon grant for Joost van Bree

Joost van Bree, who recently finished his PhD thesis working at TU/e's Photonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics group, can now carry on his research at a foreign research institute thanks to a Rubicon grant from NWO. The Rubicon program aims to give young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to acquire international research experience.

Using impurities in diamond, magnetism can be measured at the nanoscale via the magnetic fields of materials. Van Bree will reverse this quantum mechanical method and use the magnetic field of a single impurity to detect materials without magnetic fields. His research project will be carried out at the University of Chicago Institute for Molecular Engineering, USA.
