Our society today faces many challenges in the areas of energy efficiency, mobility, health and urban environment. To cope with these challenges, the construction industry should be in a position to play a major role. High quality of the infrastructure and the built environment is vital for economic growth, social coherence and a sustainable world. Energy used for heating and lighting in buildings accounts for approximately 42% of all energy consumed in Europe. There is a lot to be gained in construction, and a strong innovative industry could have a major impact.
To strengthen the innovative power, the department has joined forces with other departments in the Netherlands (Delft, Twente and Wageningen). Together they will develop a joint 4TU interface that interacts with the industry through research. This cooperation will promote knowledge-intensive business; by working together the construction chain will be able to initiate and develop innovative solutions.
