Development of new membranes and membrane-based technologies is an important way to intensify many industrial processes. Membranes are already used in some liquid separations (e.g. water desalination is one of the most important applications). Zeolites (microporous aluminosilicate molecular sieves) are among the most promising materials for membrane production due to their uniform pore system, high thermal and chemical stability.
Our project is aimed at preparation, surface modification and comprehensive characterization of zeolite membranes of different types by the most advanced techniques.
- Synthesis of novel zeolite membranes applying microwave irradiation and conventional hydrothermal treatment.
- Surface modification of obtained membranes by surface grafting, involving methods of fine organic synthesis.
- Comprehensive testing of the membranes in liquid and gas separations e.g. organics/water, xylene isomers mixture, butane isomers mixtures and light gases.
- Study of membrane formation in molecular details by means of advanced microscopic and spectroscopic techniques such as SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectroscopy) XRD (X-rays Diffraction Spectroscopy), IR (Infrared Spectroscopy), Raman Spectroscopy, and others.
