VSNU & RSC

Negotiations between VSNU and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) suspended

Since 2014 VSNU, in conjunction with the consortium of university libaries (UKB), has been negotiating with several scientific publishers about access to journals on the one hand and the possibility of open access publication in these journals on the other. The fundamental tenet is that this should be possible without significant price increase.
The VSNU has suspended negotiations with Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) because the transition to open access would lead to a substantial increase of the current subscription costs.

Consequences of suspension of the negotiations: access and publishing

Researchers affiliated to Dutch universities do no longer have access to recent publications in RSC-journals (from 1 January 2018 onwards); TU/e affiliated researchers do keep access to older articles (2017 and before).
Researchers affiliated to Dutch universities can no longer publish open access for free on the publisher’s platform in RSC journals.
