From 2021 to 2026 the Traverse building will be used to accommodate a number of employees of the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. They will have to leave the Gemini building temporarily in connection with the renovation going on there.
Original building period (Bestuursgebouw): 1983 – 1985 (Design: ir. S.J. Van Embden)
Traverse, the former Bestuursgebouw, is one of the buildings from the so-called Driegebouwenplan from 1983. This plan comprises three buildings: an administrative building, a new building for the Institute for Perception Research (IPO) and a building for the New Teacher Training Institute (NLO). The basis of this third building round of the campus was primarily to form a new central open space with the Driegebouwenplan as its core. The earlier generations of buildings had a factory-like appearance. In this building a humanization became visible. The three buildings were interconnected via a walkway on the first floor.
Moreover, these buildings were designed in particular with the users in mind, in contrast to the earlier building rounds, all of which had a multifunctional aim.
