Stimulating care environment for seniors living in a nursing home to improve Quality of Life

Our aim

Due to the aging society and changes in the care system, the average age and the need of care of the nursing home residents (NHR) has increased, as well as the proportion of NHR suffering from dementia. Subsequently the NHR have become extremely more vulnerable. The aim of the project is to develop Architectural Design Guidelines and solutions for stimulating care environment to improve the Quality of Life (QoL) of nursing home residents with dementia. This project focuses on mitigating neuropsychiatric symptoms, which are associate with lowering QoL, by stimulating spatial orientation, social interaction and balanced stimuli in the common spaces of a nursing home.
