The MOBiLus consortium (Mobility for Livable Urban Spaces) has been granted 400 M€ to set up an organization that focusses on education, research and valorization in the field of urban mobility. A total of 1.6 B€ is allocated over programs for the next 7 years. 

Urban mobility is under constant pressure and subject to crucial challenges such as urban growth, congestion, accessibility and air pollution. At the same time, residents strive for high quality of public space and convenient mobility. MOBiLus primarily aims to address the urban mobility challenge ‘the battle for space’. It will aim to achieve this by facilitating 140 research projects, 180 start-ups, launch 125 new products, educate 168.000 people varying from PDEng and PhD degrees, and free up road space in 90% of partner cities.

The consortium has been formed by the The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an independent EU body that aspires to boost innovation by concentrating a consortium of 50 partners in a specific area in a Knowledge Innovation Centre (KIC), in this case Urban Mobility. The MOBiLus management team consists of managing director Maria Tsavachidis (Siemens) and chair of the supervisory board Carlo van de Weijer (director of Smart Mobility TU/e).  The Urban Mobility consortium contain 48 partners including TU/e, BMW, TomTom, Siemens, and Oracle. Several cities are also allied with the project, such as Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Stockholm, and Istanbul.
