The tyre measurement tower in the AES lab is used to perform tyre measurements at high speed. The tyre measurement tower consists of a stiff construction made from steel, that can be placed above the dynamometer in the AES lab. A wheel with tyre can be mounted to the measuring hub inside the measurement tower. This measuring hub measures the forces and momentums on the rolling tyre. The hub can be rotated with respect to the measurement tower, to simulate steering of the wheel. The vertical position of the measuring hub can be controlled by a feedback loop in Simulink, which controls the hydraulic actuator on the measurement tower by position and pressure. The measuring hub is positioned inside the measurement tower in such a way that centre point steering is guaranteed for tyres that do not exceed the dimensions in the specification sheet.
