This NMR scanner has been especially designed for research on thin layered materials such as coatings. The electromagnet has special designed pole tips to generate a high magnetic field gradient of 36.4 T/m. The magnetic field at the sample is 1.4 T (60 MHz). Using this high magnetic field gradient a resolution of 5 µm can be achieved. Because of the design of the magnet poles the magnetic field is constant in a horizontal plane. Typical sample dimensions are 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm and with a sample height of 0.5 mm. Using this set up both H and F profiles can be measured.
