Dirk Zahn is professor in Theoretical Chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. He is an expert in molecular simulations of nucleation and growth events. In 2000 he got his PhD at the TU Darmstadt on the topic “Computer simulation of proton transport in water and through biomembranes”. He was a postdoc in the group of Prof. M. Parrinello (MPI and later ETH).  From 2002 to 2008 he was group leader at the Max Planck Institute in Dresden, where he also obtained his habilitation on the topic: "Theoretical Approaches for the Investigation of Reaction Mechanisms, Crystal Nucleation and Phase Transitions". From 2008 to 2010 he was a Heisenberg fellow. Since 2010 he is full professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University.
