Grégoire Allaire is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at EcolePolytechnique. He received his PhD from Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6) University in 1989, then hold a post-doctoral position at the Courant Institute of New York University before joiningthe French Atomic Energy Commission as a researcher. In 1997 he moved to Paris 6 University as a Professor of Applied Mathematics and then to Ecole Polytechnique in 2000.Professor Allaire's research focuses on the mathematical modelling, numerical simulation and optimization of physical and mechanicalproblems. He is a specialist of multi-scale analysis (homogenization) and of shape and topology optimization of structures. He has published 8 books and more than 160 scientific papers. He received the 2013 Dargelos prize from AX, the alumni association of Ecole Polytechnique, the 2011 EADS foundation prize, awarded by the French Academy of Sciences, and the 1996 Blaise Pascal prize of the GAMNI/SMAI, awarded by the French Academy of Sciences.
