Patricia Dankers selected to join The Young Academy of the KNAW


Patricia Dankers was selected by The Young Academy as one of the ten new, young top scientists to add to its ranks. In addition to their proven research excellence, members of the Young Academy take a broad interest in science and in science communication.

Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW) has nominated her to be a member of the Young Academy, starting November 26th 2014 for the duration of 5 years. She has accepted the membership and will be officially installed on March 26th 2015 in the members meeting of The Young Academy.

This year, two new members were nominated within the TU/e society: dr. Patricia Dankers and prof.dr. Johan van Leeuwaarden (Mathematics and Computer Science).

Patricia Dankers
Patricia Y.W. Dankers PhD is associate professor in the Institute for Complex Molecular Systems and the department of Biomedical Engineering, at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Her main research interest lies in the design, synthesis, characterization and biomedical application of functional, adaptive, supramolecular systems for regenerative medicine. Her aim is to produce biomaterials that are indistinguishable from their natural counterparts. Her particular research focus is on the kidney and the cardiovascular system.

The Young Academy
The Young Academy is a dynamic and innovative group of top young scientists and scholars with outspoken views about science and scholarship and the related policy. The Young Academy organizes inspiring activities for various target groups focusing on interdisciplinarity, science policy, and the interface between science and society.  The Young Academy has fifty members. All are between 25 and 45 years of age and received their doctorates less than ten years before their appointment to the Academy. They represent a broad spectrum of scientific and scholarly disciplines and work at Dutch universities and a wide range of research institutes. Scientific excellence and a broad interest in science and science policy are essential for membership of The Young Academy.
