8W320 - Vascular mechanics

Using anatomical and morphological features and physiological demands, the typical three-layer structure of circulatory vessels (mostly arteries) is studied. Typical mechanical topics are: anisotropy, non-linearity, viscoelasticity, residual stresses and active material behaviour. Furthermore blood-pressure autoregulation through vasoconstriction is discussed.

Learning objectives

Analysis of vascular tissue: relation between anatomical features and physiological function, autoregulation mechanisms.
