Carl Megens is Assistant Professor of Data-enabled Design. He leads the Vitality squad. Megens is interested in researching how design and technology can help people to change their behavior towards healthier and more active lifestyles, in close collaboration with the Fontys University of Applied Sciences. For this purpose, he developed a design research method called Experiential Design Landscapes, which brings design research into the everyday life. Through this work, he is now researching the role of data in a design process.
Carl Megens obtained his MSc in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2009. After working as designer at Decathlon (France) and BliXem Internet Services, he became a PhD candidate at TU/e and graduated in 2014 with a thesis on Experiential Design Landscapes. A design research method towards behaviour change, to enable people to be more active in their daily lives. He worked as researcher and lecturer at TU/e and Fontys University of Applied Science, setting up a new research and education squad on data-enabled design for vitality. In 2016, Megens was appointed Assistant Professor.
