University Researcher

Cemil Bekdemir

Cemil Bekdemir was born in Leerdam on July 17, 1985. From 1997 to 2003 he followed pre-university education (VWO) at the Heerenlanden College in Leerdam. After that, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology from 2003 to 2008. He obtained his bachelor degree (B.Sc.) with ‘great appreciation’ in 2006, and his master degree (M.Sc.) ‘cum laude’ in 2008. He wrote his master thesis, concerning the numerical modeling of diesel spray formation and combustion, in the Combustion Technology group of prof.dr. Philip de Goey. At the moment Cemil is a Junior Scientist (Promovendus) in the group of prof.dr. Philip de Goey, with Bart Somers as his co-promotor. His Ph.D. project started in 2008 and is supported by the Dutch Technology Foundation STW. The goal of his research is the development of numerical methods to accurately model diesel engine combustion for the automotive industry. Combustion is modeled with the Flamelet Generated Manifold (FGM) method in RaNS and LES simulations, in which an in-house developed model fuel will be employed as a surrogate for diesel.
