RESEARCH PROFILE

Dario Passato is a PhD student in the Dynamics and Control group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering with Prof. Dr. Ir. Ines Lopez Arteaga. His main research topics are thermoacoustics, fluid-structure interaction and vibrations.

Dario's PhD project is DYNAF (Combustion Dynamics and Acoustic Oscillations in Large Industrial Furnaces and Boilers). The DYNAF project (in collaboration with the University of Twente) aims to predict the level of acoustic vibrations produced by large industrial furnaces and boilers, providing tools for performance analysis and design of robust burners, in order to facilitate the upcoming transition from the well-known natural gas to different varieties of sustainable fuels (green hydrogen or hydrocarbon gas).

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Dario Passato studied Aerospace Engineering at the Federico II University in Naples. He graduated with honours in October 2019 with a master's thesis on 'Experimental Study of Graphene and Carbon Nanotubes Thermal Sensing Properties' at KTH, Sweden.

After graduation, Dario joined Sonora S.r.l. (December 2019, Italy) participating in an experimental campaign organised to validate numerical predictions related to a full-scale Winglet prototype (Project CS2 - Airgreen 2) gaining experience in experimental modal analysis.

In July 2021, Dario started his PhD collaborating on the Shift-2-Rail TRANSIT project. As part of the TRANSIT project, he studied micro-slitted plates for passive noise control solutions.

Since January 2022, Dario has focused on the DYNAF project (Combustion dynamics and acoustic oscillations in large industrial furnaces and boilers).
