Industrial Design

Javed Khan is Assistant Professor in the Systemic Change cluster. He leads the Design for Creatives squad. Khan has a particular interest in crowdsourcing, a new type of work-related platforms made available by the proliferation of the Internet. Khan has co-developed a method to evaluate crowdsourcing platforms, with which he has helped both companies and students learn about designing for crowdsourcing. He has also developed a platform to support the integration of crowdsourcing tasks in design education and gave the final talk at the CrowdsourcingWeek2016 conference. His tech and design YouTube videos have more than 100K views. During his time as Assistant Professor, he has already successfully supervised several students on PhD, MSc and BSc level and acquired more than €50K euro in funding.

I am interested in exploring how designers can improve existing crowdsourcing platforms and developing crowdsourcing platforms to support designers.

Javed Khan got his MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece, in 2000, and then went on to obtain a PDEng degree from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2004 and a PhD in 2009, both in Human-Computer Interaction. He also did a postdoc at TU/e, from 2009 to 2010. Before 2010, he also worked as a software engineer and computer scientist at research organizations. Khan worked at NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences as senior lecturer and lead researcher from 2010 to 2015, after which he took his current position of Assistant Professor at TU/e. He is also a co-founder of Ambianti. More info at
