Research Profile

Lex Molenaar is part-time Assistant Professor in the Electromechanics and Power Electronics group of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

Molenaar has a 20-year career in industry, in engineering, project management, technology management and line management positions. He started as engineer at SKF Automotive late last century, and was Manager of Mechatronic Innovation & Technology when he left in 2016. Since then, he joined RR Mechatronics, world leader in automated erythrocyte sedimentation rate instruments and developers of a highly specialized red blood cell analysis platform, as Technical Director. 

From 2009-2011, Molenaar was a participant in the Trailwalker, an international Oxfam Novib event in which Molenaar helped raised on average € 5,000 every year for structural education projects in various poor African countries.

Academic Background

Lex Molenaar completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology (TU/Delft) in 2000. Prior to this, he earned his MSc in Applied Physics, also from TU/Delft, in 1994.

Molenaar began work in SKF’s Engineering & Research Centre as Mechatronics Engineer in 1999. Since then, he has held a variety of positions within SKF: Project Manager, Manager of Advanced Engineering, Manager of Automotive Development, Global Manager of Project Management, and Manager Mechatronic Innovation & Technology.

Molenaar was appointed Assistant Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2016. In that same year, he also became Technical Director for RR Mechatronics B.V.
