Mircea Lazar is an Assistant Professor in the Control Systems group of the Electrical Engineering Faculty at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His main areas of expertise include measurement and control engineering.
Mircea’s research interests include general system theory (Lyapunov stability, robust stability, converse Lyapunov theorems, set invariance with focus on discrete time non-smooth systems), model predictive control (modern theory and applications, fast systems, distillation columns), modeling and control of hybrid systems (piecewise affine systems, explicit predictive controllers), distributed control systems (decentralized and distributed predictive control, networked control systems, wireless sensor networks, power systems), power circuits (predictive control of power converters, electric and hybrid vehicles).
Mircea received both his Dipl. Ing. degree (2001) and MSc (2002) in Control Engineering from the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Engineering at the ‘Gh. Asachi’ Technical University of Iasi. He received his PhD. from TU/e in 2006), Eindhoven for his thesis ‘Model predictive control of hybrid systems: stability and robustness’. He obtained the EECI (European Embedded Control Institute) PhD award for the best PhD thesis in Europe on Networked and Embedded Control, for the period 2006-2007.
He has organized and chaired invited sessions on several topics related to Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) (at the 7th IFAC Symposium on Nonlinear Control Systems, August 2007). He was Main Speaker at the International Workshop on Assessment and Future Directions of NMPC, Pavia, Italy, S2008. Mircea has been a reviewer for several major journals in the area of control systems (Automatica, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technologies, Systems and Control Letters) and power electronics (IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems). For his reviewer activities he has received the ‘Outstanding reviewer’ distinction from the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control journal for three years consecutively, starting with 2003.
