RESEARCH PROFILE

Matteo Lodde is a Doctoral Candidate in the Photonics and Semiconductor Nanophysics group (PSN) at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Here Matteo works on the design, fabrication and characterization of nanostructures with self-embedded quantum dots.  These structures – called photonic/phononic crystals – are engineered to confine and couple together an optical and a high-frequency mechanical mode. Embedding quantum dots into this system creates a tripartite interaction between light, acoustic waves and excitons, that can be exploited to create single phonons or entangled mechanical states, creating a versatile platform for quantum information processing.

Combining the power of optics and mechanics to uncover the secrets of the nanoscale world.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Matteo Lodde obtained his bachelor’s degree with honors in physics from the University of Cagliari (Italy) in 2017. He pursued his studies in the same university, and in 2019 he received his master’s degree with honors. His master’s project aimed at studying the optical properties of hybrid lead halide perovskites using ultrafast spectroscopy.

Since 2019 he is a Doctoral Candidate in the PSN group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) under the supervision of prof. Andrea Fiore.  Here his research focuses on the interaction between quantum dots and optomechanical cavities.
