RESEARCH PROFILE

Montijn van de Ven works as a researcher and PhD candidate at the Information Systems (IS) group, Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS), at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on business models, business processes, and performance management. In particular, he is studying how to define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for business models.

Montijn published articles in academic peer-reviewed journals, including Information Systems and e-Business Management, Business Process Management Journal, and Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research. He presented his work at several international conferences, including the European Conference on Information Systems, Business Model Conference, and Bled eConference. He serves as a co-chair for the data marketplaces mini-track at the Americas Conference on Information Systems 2024, and served as a co-chair for the same mini-track in 2023. He presented his PhD research at the doctoral consortium of the International Conference on Business Process Management in 2021 in Rome, Italy. 

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Montijn studied Complex Systems Engineering & Management at the Delft University of Technology, from which he obtained his Bachelor and Master degree. During his Bachelor study, he completed elective courses in Business Studies at the Law School of Leiden University. He conducted his Bachelor thesis project at Bol.com, the largest e-commerce platform in The Netherlands, where he developed strategies for increasing third-party seller satisfaction. During his Master study, he studied in Germany for one semester at the School of Management of the Technical University of Munich. He carried out his Master thesis project within the Horizon 2020 project TRUSTS (Trusted Secure Data Sharing Space), in which he investigated business models for data marketplaces. Based on his Master thesis project, he wrote and contributed to two academic publications and two Horizon 2020 project reports.
