RESEARCH PROFILE

Myriam Cloodt is an Associate Professor of Open Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her fields of expertise are open innovation, (corporate) entrepreneurship, and strategy. Topics of particular interest include corporate venturing; strategic technology alliances; mergers and acquisitions; network analysis; value constellations and ecosystems.  

Her interest in these topics is not only academic, as she has participated in several industry projects for companies and innovation ecosystems (such as the High Tech Campus Eindhoven). In addition, she has developed professional publications for organizations such as Adviesraad voor het Wetenschaps - en Technologiebeleid (AWT), Expertisecentrum Kennisvalorisatie en intellectueel eigendom, and Het Financieele Dagblad.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Myriam Cloodt studied business economics at Maastricht University and received her MSc in 1997. She worked as a lecturer at the Department of Management Sciences for two years and started working on her PhD project at the Department of Organization & Strategy in 1999. Myriam finished her dissertation at METEOR (Maastricht University) on the topic of measuring the innovative performance of high-tech companies after a merger or acquisition. During her first year as a PhD she also worked as a study counsellor. From July 2004 until May 2006, she was a researcher at the School of Technology Management at TU/e. From June 2006 until July 2017 she was Assistant Professor and since August 2017 she is Associate Professor of Open Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing (ITEM) of the School of Industrial Engineering (IE).

Myriam Cloodt has published numerous articles and book chapters on strategy, entrepreneurship and open innovation. Examples of her research can be found in such journals as Research Policy, International Entrepreneurship & Management Journal, Journal of Product Innovation Management, R&D Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, European Journal of Innovation Management, Business History, and Business History Review. In addition, she developed a book chapter about open innovation in value networks (in: Open Innovation: Researching a new paradigm, Oxford University Press) and a chapter about theories of the firm and open innovation (in: New Frontiers in Open Innovation, Oxford University Press).    

With respect to teaching, Myriam contributes to course development and teaching activities within the relevant Bachelor, Master, and Certificate programs: the BSc program Industrial Engineering & Management Science, the MSc program Innovation Management, and the Certificate program Technology Entrepreneurship & Management.
