Nicole Ummelen

Research Profile

Nicole Ummelen has been actively involved in the strategy that the university has prepared for the future. She has experienced at very close hand and facilitated the positive development made by TU/e in all its facets. As Vice President she will give substance and direction to the continuity of that policy and the new strategy.  

Academic Background

Nicole Ummelen graduated in Communication Studies at Tilburg University (The Netherlands) in 1991. In 1997, she obtained her PhD from the University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands) with her thesis on procedural and declarative information in soft-ware manuals. From 1996 until 2000, she was an assistant professor of Communication Skills at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft, The Netherlands). In 2000, she was appointed assistant professor of Corporate Communication and Digital Media at Tilburg University. From 2002 until 2005, she acted as Director of Education at the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. In 2006, after having been senior policy officer at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (The Hague) for a year, she was appointed head of Student & Staff Facilities at TU Delft. In 2006, she moved to the University of Amsterdam to become Director of Academic Affairs. From 2012-2018 she was University Secretary at Eindhoven University of Technology.
